Why draft someone if there not supposed to be good? Empty

All the time i hear analysts say things like "this guy was a 6th round
pick and look what hes doing!" well i thought about that and came to
this conclusion, why draft someone if you don't think that they are
going to be good? its not like franchises go into drafts and say well
we already picked everyone we thought would be good so now were just
gonna pick some people that are probably not going to have a great
future. No when teams draft people they want them all to become
superstars. The MLB doesn't just draft players to fill up their minor
league teams no they only draft someone if they think that the player
has a chance of becoming great. sure players drafted in later rounds
should have a smaller chance of becoming excellent players but the
thing is not all first round picks become great, there are plenty of
busts or people that are playing all right but just aren't playing up
to the expectations. The most used example is Ryan Leaf, coming into
the 1998 draft people were actually wondering whether he or Peyton
Manning would be drafted first. well obviously Peyton had the more
pronounced career and Ryan Leaf is now just a name that is every once
in a while used when talking about draft busts. One draft bust that
might catch you off guard is Michael Jordan, yes that Michael Jordan,
only it wasn't in basketball. Michael was drafted 3rd overall in the
1984 MLB draft, he hit .202 lifetime with only 50 career RBIs. Anyway
back to what i was saying about how players don't get drafted unless
the team sees some kind of promise in them. Think what the NFL would be
like if it wasn't for 7th round steals i mean if teams just drafted the
best player available in 6th and 7th rounds they might not even pay
attention to them during camps and really good players might get
completely overlooked. Tom Brady was a sixth round pick just imagine
this last 7 years if Tom Brady was not the New England Patriots QB.
Deacon Jones, who was selected to 8 pro bowls and won 2 defensive
players of the year awards, was a 14th round pick. Shannon Sharpe, who
at the time of his retirement was the all-time leader in receptions,
yards, and touchdowns for a tight end, was a 7th round pick. Roger
Staubach, who was selected to 6 pro bowls and won 2 super bowls, was a
tenth round pick, mostly because he went to the army academy and teams
weren't sure when he would start playing. Just think about the history
of the NFL if these players were not a part of it, thats what could
happen if teams payed no attention to their late round picks and only
drafted them because there were that many picks. Crazy, I know.
